This short, prose poem was inspired by the steel-engraved type ornament that appears in the middle of the text. While taking a course on letterpress printing in 2007 at the University of Illinois, I found the ornament in the print shop and drafted the poem on the spot directly on a composing stick. The poem is necessarily brief because I did not want to write more than would fit on the stick. The piece makes its digital debut here, prompted by a March 26, 2014, posting on EXLIBRIS-L.
